Customize your material types for efficient data entry

This article explains how to customize the material properties that can be selected in Empower Tracking to make your work more efficient.

Using a material list that doesn't fit your operations may cause misregistrations and be time consuming. Hence, it's highly recommended you customize the materials to make the data input in Empower Tracking as efficient as possible. Customizing the material selection in Empower Tracking can be done in Empower Platform, by following the steps below.

Customize your material settings step-by-step

1. Click on "Material settings" in the left side menu


2. Select a facility to customize the material types for


3. To see how the material selection will look like in Empower Tracking, click "Preview"


4. In preview mode, you see how the material types will be displayed in Empower Tracking


5. To start customizing the material types, click on "Edit"


When in Edit mode, you can do a number of different things;

6. First, to add a material that is not in the default list, click on "Add new material type"


7. Select materials from the drop-down menu. If you cannot find the material you wish to add, you can create your own.


8. You can reorder the materials to make your work more efficient. Click "Reorder", then click and drag a material to the desired order


9. To remove an entire material type, click "Remove"


10. You can also remove a sub-category or a value


11. To return the default list, click "Reset"


12. To copy these material settings to a different facility, click "Clone the format"


13. If you clone the format, select which other facility or facilities the material settings should be cloned to, and click "Done"


14. Once all edits are done, click "Save"


Create your own new material types

This step-by-step guide shows you how to create your own new material types to select in Empower Tracking. It begins just after Step 6. above, where you clicked "Add a new material type".

1. Check the "Create your own" field.

The window to select material types will look like below. Here you can both pick from a wider range of material pre-sets (top menu) or freely write your own new material type (field in orange below).


2. Click "Add" to add the new type to your choice list.

You can also select from a range of unit magnitudes to track this material in. Check this article to learn about the different units available and how to change them.


3. You added the new material type. Click on "Add sub-category" to customize the new type.


4. Write your sub-category designation in the pop-up window and click OK.


5. Your new sub-category is now available under the new material type. Click on Add Value to customize it further.

You can add as many sub-categories as you want to any type of material.


6. Write a Value in the pop-up window, then click OK.


7. The value has been added to your new material type. Continue adding sub-categories and/or values or click Save.

You can add as many Values as you want to any sub-category, and remove any created material, sub-category and/or value by clicking on Remove.


8. Once you saved and exit Edit Mode, your Material Settings will include the new material type.

9. Test it in Empower Tracking.

You can now check out what the new setup looks like in the preview menu or directly in Empower Tracking!
