Note: The Rewards module is optional in Empower Platform and needs to be activated first in order to use it. Please reach out to [email protected] or your Empower rep. for more information.

The Rewards module in Empower Platform enables an organisation to create simple incentive schemes for cleanup events and similar. It's built in three principles:

  1. Motivate and mobilise volunteers, by easily creating rewards that participants value.

  2. Connect and engage local public/private sector for the incentives provided, creating visibility and new ways to engage with their target audience.

  3. Easy administration; create and customise incentives and provide engagement data for internal needs and reporting to sponsors/local businesses

Setting up in three steps:

Log in to Empower Platform and go to the Rewards module in the left menu (if module activated) and follow the three steps:

Step number one, creating a Token, needs to be completed in order to create Events or Coupons.

1. Create Token

First, you create a token for your Incentive scheme. This is your "virtual currency" that the participant will receive when confirming their participation at the event.

Step 1: In the left menu, choose "Tokens". In the Tokens page choose "Create" (image above)

Step 2: First give your token a name that fits your organisation or event (can be anything). Secondly name a prefix, typically a shortening for the token name. And lastly upload an image to illustrate the token. Tip: If you want to add a nice touch, you can use services like flaticon.com. Finally click Save.

2. Create Event

Secondly create the Event with the details needed. Many of these details will show for the participants in their Deposit app screen:

Step 1: Create an event title and description. This will also show up for the participants in the Deposit app. Search up your location, and it will automatically show up in the map. Next, scroll down below the map to complete the last details:

Step 2: Here we fill in when the Event starts and ends. The participants will only be able to scan the event QR code within this timeframe, so adjust accordingly to your needs here. The Max number of attendees enables you to limit how many participants can scan the event QR-code and receive reward tokens - potentially also to prevent fraud of reward scans. Finally, you need to add what Token and amount of tokens the participants will receive when participating. See next image.

Step 3: Here we added the CleanupCoin, and have chosen that the participant will receive one token for their participation.

Step 4: All done, scroll back up and click save.

3. Create Coupon

Now we only need to complete the final step with the Coupon, meaning the "digital voucher" the participant can redeem for the Reward you have decided on.

In the example below the event organiser made a deal with the local kiosk at the beach, providing an ice cream for each participant.

Step 1: Click Coupons, and then Create

Step 2: Fill out the Coupon details; Here we fill out any details relevant for the Reward and how the user can redeem it, remarks etc. Note that we also can limit how many Coupons that will be possible to Redeem in total. In this case we chose 200, and then selected the CleanupCoin as the valid Token, with a cost of 1 token to redeem the Reward. When done, click save.

Congratulations - You've now created a complete incentive scheme!

Finding and using the event QR-code

The event QR-code is the only thing you need in order to make the incentive scheme work during the event. So you need to retrieve the code from the Event page:

Step 1: Find your event in the list, and click Edit.

Step 2: In this screen you can already test the QR code, but we recommend clicking the "Print QR code" button to open a higher resolution QR-code image that you either can save digitally or print on a paper (or why not do both to be sure..).

Reporting

Finally, to report on key metrics for internal use or report to key stakeholders / reward partners etc, it's easy to retrieve:

  1. Number of participants on the event (scanning the event code)

  2. Number of Coupons (being redeemed)

Keeping track of Event participation

On the events page list view, we see 0/200, meaning no people participating this event yet out of the 200 cap limitation set.

Keeping track of Coupon use

On the Coupons page list view, we see 0/200, meaning no people have redeemed the reward yet out of the 200 cap limitation set.
